Texas,
also known as the Lone Star State, has long been recognised as America's
number one birding State
with over 600 species recorded there.
Many of the colourful species are from Mexico
and are not found elsewhere in North America. |

As well as the more common
species this talk shows close up shots of the more unusual ones such as
Vermilion Flycatcher, Summer Tanager, Painted Bunting, Green Jay,
Pyrrhuloxia, Curve-billed Thrasher, Long-billed Thrasher, Great Kiskadee, Harris's Hawk,
Crested Caracara, Chachalaca and many more. |

With an area of nearly 270,000 square miles, Texas is the second largest
State and has a very varied terrain including mountains, hill country,
desert brushland, plains, pineywoods, the Gulf coast and the famous Rio
Grande Valley. |

The Rio Grande Valley, in the southwest corner of Texas, is separated from
Mexico by the Rio Grande River. As well as being well known for it's
resident birds it is also notorious for the migrants that arrive from across
the Gulf of Mexico on the way north to their breeding grounds. |
